A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued since the beginning of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a prosperous future free from concern.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a local firefighter, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The trend became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the festive period,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the essence of Miami: happy, multicultural, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Annually, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
