Adult Swim's Leading Fresh Series of This Year Earns a Substantial Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

Last October, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the channel introduced a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a animated take of a serene talk show. At a time often defined by bleakness, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Significant Investment

In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.

"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Network Praise

Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming sensibility.

"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about watching this lovable family navigate their daily lives.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

Future Seasons

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well be part of that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to enjoy the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
