Arne Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Has The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's expected for doubts to be raised about his position after a further convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in 12 matches, marking the team's poorest streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a tough evening at Anfield.

“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I've received significant backing from management,” the coach remarked.

“It would be great to reverse this trend and secure a win of course but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it's typical that people question you.”

He noted, “I am OK with my role. It is not the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we turned it around.”

Conversations with The Board

Upon being questioned to expand on his conversations with the team officials, Slot said:

“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they back me.”

He added, “Through standard discussions I sense the belief. But I've not talked to them after this match yet so it remains to be seen.”

Recurring Failings and Squad Response

The manager lamented known failings from his team in their Champions League defeat, specifically wasted chances and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his view of the current crisis.

“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” Jones said.

“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the words.”

He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”

“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a phase such as this with results this poor.”

He concluded, “However we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And until it is gone, we’re always going to fight.”

“We’re going to try to get this team back to where it needs to be, prove once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the top club in the planet.”

“However currently, things are bad and it must improve.”
