Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Intense Discussions Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but includes several notable changes:
- Every squad has just eight human participants, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
- Actions done by real players award full XP, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
- Only two maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.
So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, as it gives more options for players seeking different ways to have fun with the title. However, if video games has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, many BF6 players are mad.
Community Reactions: From Fury to Praise
"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," comments another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," while someone else details all the issues they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."
However, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this game 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," adds a different comment. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Concerns and Player Input
All that said, there are valid points to complain about the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase queue times more extended for other modes due to the large amount of options currently available. On a similar note, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was promised to offer full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to remove XP farming from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the community meeting them in the middle, according to forum feedback. Another describes this mode as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?
If Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and responding to feedback. Assignments being too difficult got fixed rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics shows this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
