Britain Prepared to Use Immobilized Russian Funds to Support the Ukrainian War Effort
The British government is ready to advance with utilizing the total value of immobilized Russia's funds to aid the Ukrainian defense operations, Leader Sir Keir Starmer has stated.
In a joint statement, the leaders of the United Kingdom, France, and Germany asserted that this unified step would escalate tension on Russian President Vladimir Putin and persuade Moscow to participate in talks.
They clarified that the decision would be carried out in strong partnership with the United States.
UK penalties have frozen in excess of £25bn of Russian assets since Russia began its comprehensive attack against the Ukrainian nation in 2022. But, until now, resources sent to the Ukrainian government using Russia's funds had exclusively been sourced from profits and interest earned on them.
Sir Keir informed President Volodymyr Zelensky that the Britain, the French Republic, and Germany were in agreement in their goal to drive progress toward utilizing the total worth of the seized Russia's state funds to conclude the conflict.
He added that more restrictions over the next period would increase the strain on Moscow.
This announcement comes after European officials met in the Danish capital previously to discuss utilizing frozen Russia's funds for a €140 billion financial aid to the Ukrainian nation.
Last month, US President Donald Trump called on Group of Seven partners to seize or utilize seized Russian holdings, according to media sources.
The total of frozen Russian funds in the Europe is estimated to be approximately €211bn.

Russia carried out extensive bombardments all over Ukraine on Friday, leading to power cuts in large parts of Kyiv, Kyiv, and eight other regions.
