A tragic explosion at a security post in the Indian-controlled part of Kashmir has resulted in the fatalities of nine people and wounding to thirty-two others, according to authority reports.

The event occurred when a cache of confiscated explosives inadvertently exploded during processing activities.

Timeline of Events

The detonation occurred on Friday evening at the Nowgam security post, where explosive materials confiscated in Faridabad region in the northern province of Haryana province were being stored temporarily.

Regional law enforcement head announced that the blast materials were pending technical investigation when a "very unfortunate" accident during management led to their explosion at approximately 11:20 PM local.

Police Statements

Police authorities verified that this was an "accidental detonation" and rather than a militant action. "Different conjectures regarding the origin of this occurrence is unwarranted," highlighted the security director during a journalist meeting.

The law enforcement facility suffered severe damage from the explosion, with neighboring structures also being affected by the strong explosion.

Aftermath and Casualties

Numerous cars were "consumed by fire and transformed into ashen remains, with fragments distributed across the area," according to official reports.

"The intensity of the detonation was so powerful that some human remains were found in nearby houses, approximately 100-200 metres away the security post," reported an official source.

Most of the casualties were law enforcement personnel, along with technical investigation team, two crime scene photographers, and a garment worker who was present with the personnel.

Administration Action

The territory's Administrative Head stated sympathies and declared that an inquiry had been directed into the tragic incident.

"I have commissioned a investigation to establish the reason of the unintentional blast. Extremely pained by the death of valuable individuals due to profoundly sorrowful unintentional explosion at Nowgam police station in Srinagar city. My condolences to the grieving relatives. I pray for quick healing of the wounded," expressed the leader on digital platforms.
