Ex- Doctor Charged with Sexual Assault Allegations Involving 38 Patients
Prosecutors report that a former doctor has been charged with carrying out assaults against thirty-eight victims who were patients.
The Serious Charges
The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with numerous acts of sexual assault – comprising acts against children younger than 13 – spanning the period from 2017 to 2021.
A deputy chief CPS official said, “Our prosecutors have diligently worked to support a detailed and complex police inquiry, meticulously examining the available evidence to establish that there is a strong case to proceed to trial and that it is in the public interest.”
Scope of the Investigation
These allegations follow what investigators described as a “detailed inquiry” into alleged assaults at two hospitals: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall hospital.
The defendant is due to appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.
Breakdown of Offences
Prosecutors outline the 45 sexual offences comprise:
- 15 counts of assault.
- Seventeen counts of assault by penetration.
- 9 counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
- Three counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
- 1 count of attempting to assault by penetration.
