Manchester United Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months left on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Munich was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
