Micky van de Ven found the net twice as Spurs prolonged their winning streak on the road in the top division and handed the Toffees their initial loss at their new home.

The Toffees were unbeaten in their five previous fixtures at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having departed their historic home behind after more than a century at the conclusion of last season.

But Tottenham's leader the Dutchman pounced on two occasions from set-pieces in the first half to put their strong form at jeopardy, and they were unable to turn it around before the midfielder - assisted by former Toffees attacker the Brazilian - nodded in a third to put the game to bed.

Jake O'Brien thought he had equalized the tally a short while after Van de Ven's first goal, directing a powerful header past the Spurs keeper from an Everton corner.

The Portuguese striker, in the meantime, failed to convert a number of chances, while Vicario made a series of fine stops to guarantee the London club went five away games unbeaten in the English top flight.

But the VAR stepped in, advising Craig Pawson to check the goal on the pitchside monitor and the official decided that Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye were in an illegal position and had impeded with the Spurs keeper.

The win elevates the manager's team up to third in the Premier League, a handful of points off north London rivals and leaders the Gunners.

Everton remain 14th and are half a dozen points ahead of the relegation zone.

Tottenham analysis: The defender fulfils role at each end of pitch

After a uninspiring weekday display in the Champions League against the French side, where they managed a only two shots on goal, Frank opted for the French striker in attack instead of former Toffees player Richarlison.

The new arrival was failed to make much of an impact before being replaced for the substitute after 60 minutes on the pitch, but it turns out he wasn't needed in the final outcome.

Defender the Dutchman transformed into an attacking force to be reckoned with.

Tottenham's first goal came from a cleverly executed set-piece play, with the midfielder directing the ball toward the face of goal for an free Van de Ven to head home.

And Ven de Ven - filling in as skipper in Cristian Romero's absence - notched his next goal in first-half stoppage time as he rose above Jordan Pickford to head home.

Van de Ven was equally impressive in defensive duties, partnering effectively with his defensive colleague as the duo dealt excellently with the numerous deliveries sent their way by Everton.

Everton analysis: Everton lacking finishing touch

The club's recent stadium had been a fortress, but it appears the freshness may have worn off somewhat and fans flocked to the gates after Sarr's third for Tottenham.

The end in Everton's unbeaten home run won't be a massive worry for the manager, but their striker situation will be.

Beto and the other striker - the Toffees' pair of recognised centre-forwards - had netted only a single goal between them before the weekend's outing.

And they were failed to contribute to that poor tally on a damp and dreary evening on Merseyside.

The striker's form was epitomized when he opted to overhead kick a golden opportunity from near the goal, even with having room and time to readjust for a more conventional shot that would have challenged Vicario.

Barry, too, was unable to influence the game after coming on for Beto in the second half.

It wasn't for a shortage of chance. Most of Everton's offensive moves came through the winger and Ndiaye, who tirelessly delivered threatening crosses into the Spurs penalty area.
