The Gunners' boss feels assured that his squad can keep managing with injury setbacks following disclosing that forward Kai Havertz remains out for the coming weeks.

Prolonged Recovery for Havertz

The German forward has been out since the summer following an operation on his knee. Initially expected to return at the start of this month, Arteta revealed the player faced a hurdle when increasing his rehabilitation and was unable to move forward “the next phase.”

“We learned, and we were able to put together a squad that is considerably steadier and has greater depth,” Arteta said.

Tactical Decisions for Brentford Clash

This development creates a tactical puzzle for the midweek match against Brentford. Arteta must choose between persisting with Mikel Merino, who scored as a makeshift striker on Sunday, or bringing back Viktor Gyökeres, who made a return after a fitness issue off the bench. Long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus is available following a lengthy absence.

Fitness Doubts Linger

Further fitness issues involve defender William Saliba and attacker Leandro Trossard, who both missed the weekend encounter. As a result, summer signings Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié will probably start again in the backline for the league leaders.

Arteta feels the significant outlay on squad depth during the summer has placed the club in a much stronger position to handle such absences.

When asked if a larger pool of players was aiding their championship push, Arteta was emphatic. “Yes, as this campaign has been worse in some areas, and now the situation with the defence,” he continued.

“Our previous experiences taught us that we have to use players in alternative spots, and they have to be able to adapt to new tasks if we are to fight at the highest level. And the example of Mikel Merino.”

Manager’s Sympathy for Frustrated Havertz

Commenting on the setback noted by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, the manager gave more insight. “He was doing everything. He could not go to the next level and now it appears like we have solved that issue.”

The manager conveyed his eagerness to see him return. “We’re all desperate to have him. I mean, he is a footballer who, for me, I admire greatly for what he brings to the team, but his character, his personality. I see him suffer on the sidelines.”
