From early 2023 onward, at least 150 of these spaces have permanently closed – approximately one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.
In the last year, major artists including Pulp, the group Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the trust in its attempts to support the industry, by including a modest fee to their ticket costs, which goes to help independent venues.
Fender also participated, generating more than £100,000 on his live tour to help numerous small stages across England, Scotland, and Wales.
The money assisted spaces that were dealing with imminent closure due to challenges arising from flooding, fires and bereavements, as well as permit problems, legal disputes and neighbor objections.
Additional spaces obtained funding support in improving facilities and sound and lighting systems that directly benefitted performers and audiences.
