Supporters Call for Custody of Individual Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal fans of Ariana Grande are urging that a man who jumped a barrier and touched the actress during Thursday's Wicked: For Good launch be detained or removed from Singapore.
A viral video shows the Australian man pushing past photographers and charging at Grande while the actors made its way down a yellow carpet surrounded by onlookers.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the shocked actress away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being escorted out of the premiere by guards.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram recently that he was "free after being taken in", though legal records showed that he was due to attend court on the next day. It is uncertain if he was faced legal action.
Record of Event Invasions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Troll Most Hated", has invaded a celebrity gathering. His Instagram feed contains clips of him interrupting other celebrity events, including breaching the performance area at the artist's Sydney performance in June this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers concert in the city last winter.
"There needs to be action taken against him as this is clearly a criminal offence," commented an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen shared of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" a different Instagram user questioned.
Followers Voice Worry Over Ariana's Safety
Several followers blamed Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had spoken of experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder after a devastating incident at the finale of her 2017 show in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and harming hundreds.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" said a further message on Instagram.
Several attendees also faulted guards at the Thursday event for not being adequately prepared; while different individuals demanded social media platforms to block Mr Wen's uploads.
Aftermath and Premiere Information
In videos circulating online, Grande seemed shocked when she was grabbed by the individual. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed consoling her while Mr Wen was escorted away by staff.
Grande has not issued a statement on the incident, and the remaining proceedings carried on uninterrupted.
Many of supporters had assembled in a mass of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good regional premiere in a Singapore venue, including several who had queued for as long as eight hours before it started.
The movie, to be premiered on 21 November, is the second of a dual version of the popular Broadway and West End production Wicked, which centers on the unlikely bond between two very different sorceresses.
The show itself is a adaptation of the 1900 story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was adorned in a light pink sequin dress at the premiere while Erivo, who acts as the villainous character, wore a elegant ensemble embroidered with roses.
They were accompanied by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the highest-grossing film of the previous year in the UK, and received ten award recognitions, securing two for excellent wardrobe and production design.
