Area Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials say initial examinations indicate the fluid was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; officials are currently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the event," they commented.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the public for information.
A senior official stated the vandalism left him without words and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine people by a shooter aiming at residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
